Newcastle Unchanged At Villa Park

Newcastle look to stretch their victory streak to 7 straight at Villa Park this afternoon. The Magpies have climbed to third in the table and a result at Aston Villa would keep this black and white train rolling.

As expected, the team remains unchanged as Jason Tindall takes the reins for the third straight match.

Here is who Unai Emery has selected for the hosts.

We can have no complaints as we have been second best from minute one today, but let`s not lose sight of the terrific run we have have been on ourselves recently.

Sometimes you have to hold your hand up – Villa have been excellent today and we just can’t handle Watkins. A bad day at the office but no need to throw your toys out the pram yet!

We only roughly need 6 more points to seal the deal for champs league

Full effort into Ipswich and then its only 3 more points needed from the rest of the games

In reality this has been our best season in 70 years! But plenty to think about for next season about what we need to improve pace pace pace and more technical ability preferably in the same player!¬

Bad day at the office. Villa were the best team by quite some margin. Again we struggled against a team pressing us with intensity. Bring in Ipswich, we go again and put it right…hopefully!

We never play well when we dont absolutely need to. That’s very worrying if we ever have aspirations to win thr league in the next few years.

We cant keep crumbling to these big defeats. None of the big teams lose like this.

When he plays like this it’s always when he’s coming back from injury.

100% spot on there mate, Villa have been terrific today and worthy winners, and we looked like a team who are fatigued tonight, not the end of the world, we are still in a great position Martin.

Villa played very well, outmuscled us everywhere on the pitch. Isak didn’t have a sniff because of no service, but hey, what a season we’re having. CL still in grasp and a cup win with a paper thin squad. Onwards and upwards.

Going to be a struggle for Isak to survive a european campaign and all the league and cup commitments

He has barely been able to play 90 mins all season

Someone like Delap or David would easily get more than enough game time for us sharing the load

Two unlucky own goals never help, but nowhere near enough quality in our passing or decision making today..
Personal duels lost all over the pitch.
Villa were good value for the win, but we made it all too easy for them at times.
We’re still in pole position though, first defeat in seven… re-group and prepare well for Ipswich.
And with a win next week, we’re back on track.

One poor defeat doesn’t suddenly make it a poor season.

We were getting opened up over and over and did nothing to fix it. Like in other games where we got hammered we havent learn to go compact and play on counter. Gave so much space in front of defence and in behind. And with Trips schar and Burn the slowest back line in the world. We need to add pace to the defence in Summer 2xCB and 1RB. 1xMidfielder. 1xCF. And 2xRW. And thats for the first team only. Then quality youngsters ready to step up when needed.

    Villa destroyed us

Really poor game today, especially from the ‘manager’. How can we bring on Wilson who’s become totally useless instead of a hungry Osula??
Also too many big players not at their best today. And we don’t have subs to replace them.
If we want to become a real top team we need upgrades on Pope, Schar, Burn, Joelinton and Murphy. Joe was so poor today, never seen a Brazilian with such a lack of technique.

Emre wound them up to repay their fans after missing their chance to get level with PSG earlier in the week.

Their energy levels were good and their bench had depth and pace to keep up the tempo.

Let’s hope Eddie shows his face before the Ipswich game as the players owe him and us to move on up.

Football can be a bit like rock-paper-scissors.
Burn is 33 in a few weeks. Schar is 33 and Tripps is 34.
Our nemesis is clearly pace with that backline and it really showed today.
But that’s why a season is played over 38 games against different types of teams. And overall, I still think we’ll end up in the CL. But we’re going to have to fix the problem of our lack of pace at the back for next season.
On whether Tindall should have changed the starting 11. No, the assistant manager is never going to change a team that’s just won a cup final and five consecutive league games. And I’m not sure who for, especially at the back.
