Barnes, Schar, And Willock Start Against Ipswich

Newcastle hope for a rebound today against Ipswich Town at St. James’ Park. The lads fell to Aston Villa last weekend after claiming 6 straight victories and reaching third in the Premier League table.

The match marks the return of Eddie Howe, who missed the previous three matches with pneumonia. A win in this ultra-critical fixture would thrust Newcastle back into place and in a great position with four matches remaining.

This is the team Eddie Howe has chosen with Joe Willock in for Joelinton, who misses out with a reported minor knee injury. Sven Botman also returns to the squad after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Here is who Kieran McKenna has named for Ipswich with potential summer target Liam Delap starting.

Howay The Lads!

The season of breaking records and voodoos.

    Amex is just another.

In a season when we have lifted that elusive trophy by beating Liverpool for the first time in nearly ten years. To a league double over Man U that hadn’t been seen since the 1930s to a real opportunity to finish second in the league and then remind yourselves of the media love in for Arsenal.

    Let’s break another voodoo

Magscar…Aye, it’s been a great season whatever happens now, I’m just enjoying the ride. Great to be a team that’s win a cup and still lots to play for. It’s in our hands and I’m very confident we’ll be in the CL next season. What’s not to love about being a toon fan at the moment?

I reckon Guehi and Elanga will join the ranks in the summer.

Cheaper deal for Guehi with one year left on his contract and the fact he has been one of our top scorers this season we need to make it permanent 😉

Elanga desperate to come here and link up with Isak

Looking for a big performance from Isak today.

As others have said he’s looked a bit off it the last few games and his body language concerns me a bit. Gone are the days for instance when he used to rally the crowd and even his goal celebrations – with the exception of the cup final – don’t seem as upbeat as they once were.

Even with a new contract I doubt we can afford to pay more than £225k-£250kpw and he could probably get double that as a c£150M signing for Lpool or RM.

If he signs I think he’ll want a release clause at a max of £150M and he might insist on £125M.

I know he is under contract until 2028 but the club are in a Catch 22…

Don’t offer him a new contract and it sends the wrong message to Isak who definitely deserves one…

Offer one and it’s refused and cat is out of the bag on his intentions/ambitions.

As others have pointed out the Amex has not always been a happy hunting ground for us and the mention of Welbeck again scoring against us brings back horror memories.
We need to wallop this lot once and for all.
    I’m going for a victory.

    Mund…

Interesting take on Guehi and Elanga.

I’ve never been hugely impressed with Guehi but I haven’t seen a great deal of him so would just Eddie’s judgement if he signed.

Elanga reminds me a bit of ASM… sensational on his day but blows hot and cold but that may be because Forest have so little of the ball in games.

For me, Mbueno would still be my No.1 choice as a RW signing as I think he would be another elite player to join Isak, AG, Tonal, Bruno and Botman.

I’m not so sure Elanga would be the same big step up on Murphy.

Mbuemo would be my shout as first choice as we as he just fits perfectly. Would take a lot to get him IMO.

Guehi would be a great fit and he’s English so would help in Europe and squad registration,

    Guehi about 40M I reckon.

I can see about 4 signings this summer

    Mister Tuff..

You mentioned the other day you thought Van Hecke was a bit over aggressive when I suggested him as a signing…

Bit ironic coming Mister Tuff 🙂

I’m all for aggressive players, especially CB’s, as long as they aren’t being booked and sent off every other game.

Some ST’s will defo think twice on challenges if they they get whacked with knees and elbows and the odd nut in the back of the head in an aerial challenge. IMO Van Hecke takes aggression to the limit and that’s fine by me… as long as he doesn’t injure one of our players 🙂

I think the fans would love the fire in his belly if he played for us.

Nothing the matter with aggressive players. I praise the aggression demonstrated by Joe Linton and have referred to it many times on blogs – way before it became a talking point of junior posters.

After catching up with the blog this morning
I felt I should log in to issue a warning
As I saw Jail announce that there’s no meet-up fee
And that seems highly suspicious and fake news to me

Wor B never gives owt away
And he’s hardly likely to start on Sunday
I think those two scoundrels are in cahoots
And they’ve devised a plan to be filling their boots

I reckon that Jail must be on commission
As he’s clearly been tasked with finding additions
    Whate’er they’re up to I just don’t know
But it’s bound to be dodgy, so mind how you go
    .
    .
And the information that I’ve received
Is totally different but more easily believed
And on that matter I’ll have more to say
But I’m keeping my counsel, until probably Friday

    😉 🙂

    Bills

I’ve been putting Isaks body language down to his drop in form (goals), seems like the kind of striker who gets downhearted when he isn’t scoring. Probably a bit disappointed with himself that he’s not scoring as regularly earlier in the season.

Apparently got a groin issue as well which could be part of his drop in form.

Here’s hoping he bangs a few in today to lift his mood 🙂

Big Joe is a massive loss as little Joe cannot fill his boots. Miley is more solid because Willock cannot defend and how many goals does he get?
Take a draw now but even a loss is no disaster but a loss means Chelsea is a must win.
We need a top game from Isak. Is it a niggle or a head turn or loss of form.? Not been the same player since before the cup final.

    Good Morning Folks,

So another huge day on the South Coast as the Toon head down to Brighton.

This match is of huge signifcance, and could go a long way in determining our Champions League qualification.

Some factors i feel could decide today`s result!!
( 1 ) How will we perform without the influential Joelinton?
( 2 ) Can Kieran Trippier deal with the pace and trickery of Kaoru Mitoma?

I suspect Joe Willock will replace Joelinton in an otherwise unchanged team for today.

This is a really difficult match to predict as both teams are more than capable of beating any team on their day.

As other Blog members have already mentioned, we will need to keep a close eye on Danny Welbeck who is having a fabulous season.

I would be over the moon if the Toon were victorious today, but also delighted if we came away with a draw.

    Thanks Magic, pal!

I’d feel better with Miley starting over Willock today as I think he’s the better footballer, but Eddie knows best. Brighton love overloading the opposition’s defence under Hurzeler which might/should open up space for Little Joe’s running.

    God I hope we win.

    Bill’s,
I have debated for want of a better word on Isak and the fact, imo we’re ongoing to have to offer him £275K pw. I’ve seen the idea rubbished out of hand, “there’s no way we’re doubling his wages, what does it say to the other players, he’s happy with the project and he’d be happy on £180K pw” Why would he be happy earning half of what Haaland gets, Mr Liverpool himself threatened to leave if he didn’t get that ridiculous contract. Whether people like me saying it or not, Isak doesn’t seem to have that same connection to the fans as Bruno, AG and big Jo, he seemed largely unmoved by that big display we done for him against West Ham. He’s said he’s happy here and we have to take him at face value for that but people are living in fantasy land if they don’t think we’re going to have to absolutely smash our wage structure to get him to sign a new deal in the summer.

I think Howe likes tall players, has to be over 178cm (Tripper being the exception to this rule)

Therefore any player signed will be this height or taller.

I think any centre back signing will be as tall as our current centre backs, so I don’t think we will sign Guehi.

CB’s like Diomande, Bisseck, Huijsen, Tomori, Thiaw are more likely signings in my opinion.

Right wing options would be played like Elanga, Dibling, Bakayoko, Madueke or Akliouche.

Also our signings tend to be English too.

Therefore I think our most likely signings are:

    GK – Trafford
    CB – Huijsen or Bisseck
    RW – Dibling
    ST – Delap
