Newcastle have a golden opportunity at St. James’ Park to stake a Champions League claim today. A victory and Newcastle will eclipse Manchester City into third with just two matches remaining in the campaign.
It won’t be easy as today’s foe is Chelsea, who are also pushing for a top five finish. The Blues bring a five match winning streak into this match after booking a place in the Europa Conference League final a few days ago.
This is the team Eddie Howe has named with Dan Burn likely moving to left back for the injured Kieran Trippier.

Comment #82Chelsea behaving like the entitled whingers they are. Caicedo lucky not to have been booked early on. Jackson red was correct.
They really don’t like it when teams compete.
Hopefully we’ll get a second and if we do I think we could get a few more because Chelsea look ready to implode.

Comment #83HOWE has them set up like they play this way all the time, 2nd half, killing down the hill, hopefully a few more goals, 1 Pont behind Arsenal, big game next week.

Comment #84The one thing Gordon has been doing is getting under their skin. Enzo losing is there and getting himself booked because they thought Palmer hadn’t fouled Gordon.

Comment #86Our levels dropped up a man.
We are in a great position but we are so poor playing with the extra man.
Not getting crosses in, not using the width in the final third. And then poor set pieces routines. Slow play. And when we do cross a ball in it is mostly cut backs or along the top of the box that they can jump on to spring a counter.
We need to be ruthless and we’ll need a 2nd before they get their chances. The run by Neto massive warning. Chelsea are still dangerous even with 10. They’ll get a cheesy penalty or some break because we aren’t playing with a killer instinct.
Let’s snap out of this and pick it up. We have this. More balls across the goal like for Tonali’s opener.

Comment #89Anyone else think our formation and system today is very impressive, the 3 center backs, with the two wing backs is working a treat so far, another goal though should be enough to fully guarantee the 3 crucial points.

I’d like to see us keep the same formation against Arsenal, and just try and hit them on the counter
