Jaissle's Coventry Update – Four Players Could Return
Matthias Jaissle has delivered some encouraging news ahead of Newcastle United's return to Premier League action against Coventry City on Monday evening.
In his press conference yesterday, after an unusually long international break, the Newcastle head coach believes his squad is getting stronger, with three or four of the nine players missing against Hull potentially available again.
But Jaissle also made it clear that Newcastle won't rush players back before they're ready.
Joelinton – A Warrior Newcastle Have Missed
One player Jaissle is particularly pleased to see returning to training is Joelinton.
The Brazilian has yet to feature this season, but his manager clearly values much more than his footballing ability.
Jaissle described Joelinton as a leader whose body language sets an example, adding:
"We need warriors in the team."
However, the manager stressed that Joelinton's workload must be managed carefully, meaning a place on the bench may be more realistic than an immediate start.
Nico González is another player making progress, while Amar Dedić and William Osula have also been pictured back in training.
A Setback for Jaouen – And Praise for Pope
The disappointing news concerns young goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.
Jaissle confirmed that the Frenchman will miss approximately two months with a hamstring injury, suffered during international duty.
That could give Nick Pope another opportunity to be involved in the first-team squad.
Jaissle praised the experienced goalkeeper's professionalism, explaining that Pope understands his current role and has continued to show the right attitude both in training and away from the pitch.
I wouldn't expect anything else from Nick who was a tremendous buy at just £13M and played a huge part in the CL qualifications and Cup win under Eddie Howe.
Coventry Won't Be Taken Lightly
Newcastle travel to Coventry following their 2-1 victory over Hull, while Coventry themselves arrive with confidence after beating Nottingham Forest.
Jaissle warned that every Premier League team is capable of beating another and said Newcastle must perform at their best.
He also welcomed the opportunity to get his internationals back together and continue developing the team's playing style.
After weeks of injuries and limited selection options, Newcastle could finally have some welcome competition for places.
Coventry will be desperate to get their first win in front of their supporters and Jezza's Bingo players may have the same selection considerations as our manager for Monday night's game.
Who would you start?

John J
There's a nasty flu bug doing the rounds. I had it two weeks before a flu jab ,!
Mind there's a covid strain doing the rounds as well. Government knows about it, medics know about it but they're not keen to tell folk. Over 75's and some others can get a jab but you have to ask for it ! Or go private for £95 of your match day drinking fund !
Stay well
Hope you're feeling a lot better John and you're home soon. Ditto about the three points. That would be a good tonic for everybody.
@John J. You take it easy mate, proper flu is nasty.
Well I’ve a right old week haven’t I just!
In the early hours of Monday morning I had 3 independent trips to the loo. Each time I fell down! I’m thinking what’s this? My wife rang the GP at 8am and we received a call back
Just before noon. We were told to dial 999 and we were taken up to Accident & Emergency at Cramlington hospital. After hanging around a bit we were told I had Flu. To my knowledge I’ve never had flu before but it’s turned to be “I wish I wish I’d never had the Flu”. It’s been a very slow week tests, tests and more tests, There’s a chance I may be allowed home…
According to emjam’s earlier diagram thingy. Head of first team recruitment is vacant, anyone fancy it? January sign Haaland from Lalaland. 😁. Just 3 sleeps. 🛌🛌🛌
