Newcastle Could Climb Into the Top Six After Weekend Results
Updated: 3 days ago
Saturday's Premier League results worked well for Newcastle who could move into the top six when they travel to Coventry City on Monday night.
Newcastle currently have eight points from five matches, but another three points would take us to 11 and depending on results today possibly into a CL place.
Saturday's Results Go Our Way
Several results went Newcastle's way yesterday.
Manchester United and Tottenham drew 1–1 at Old Trafford, Aston Villa were held 2–2 by Brentford, while Sunderland suffered a 2–0 home defeat against Brighton.
Fulham also lost 2–1 at Ipswich, although Chelsea strengthened their position with an emphatic 5–1 victory over Bournemouth.
Newcastle now sit just one point behind sixth-placed Leeds United, with a game in hand.
A victory at Coventry would take the The Lads above Leeds, Chelsea and Brentford, although Sunday's fixtures involving Liverpool, Everton and Hull could affect our final position.
Another Win Puts Us Back On Track
After the 4-1 hammering and poor performance at Leeds many fans were concerned - me included - that our prior good results were overshadowing a shot shy attack and a shot conceding defence and so it proved at Elland Road.
Racing into a quick two goal lead against unbeaten Hull was exactly what the team and us fans needed to calm the nerves but the jitters set in again once Hull pulled a goal back and Newcastle lost control of the game.
However, Jaissle was without nine players and it has to be repeated that both our new manager and new squad are still adapting not only to each other but also to a new playing system.
If we can get another win against a newly promoted team and move onto 11pts and just one defeat after six games that is a far better start than most fans expected - points are more important than performances and the latter should improve as Jaissle works out his best starting eleven.
Coventry have struggled since their return to the Premier League, collecting just three points from five matches and scoring only once.
But their recent victory at Nottingham Forest demonstrates that Newcastle cannot afford to take anything for granted.
Frank Lampard and his team will be desperate to get their first home PL win and they will see a Newcastle team unable to keep clean sheets as an opportunity to do just that.
Nowt is guaranteed in the PL but this is a definite chance for Newcastle to go there, get three points and reach a lofty position early in the season.
After Coventry, Newcastle face Aston Villa at St James' Park next Saturday.
Two wins in our next two games would cement a top six place and leave us fans on a high.
Two defeats would leave us in mid table and on a low.
How do you think we'll do... starting with Coventry?

Chelsea could be back in the shit as well as City .
There's breaking news that a well known firm of accountants and auditors deliberately hid millions of Abramovic's assets off the books for tax avoidance purposes.
Whether or not the same tactics involved Chelsea FC will need to be investigated and clarified .
