It's nearly three weeks since the last outfield player, Aladji Bamba, was signed by the club and fans are asking why it is taking so long to add more players to the squad.
But there may be a very good reason for it.
New head coach Matthias Jaissle has only just arrived at the club, and it may be that Wilson is giving him time to assess the squad before committing tens of millions of pounds on new signings.
It makes sense
Jaissle has already spoken about wanting to work with the current group before making final decisions, stressing that he wants to give players the chance to prove themselves.
He has also described recruitment as a collective process involving the sporting director, coaching staff and club leadership, rather than decisions being made by one individual.
There is little point signing players if the new manager isn't convinced they'll fit his style.
Jaissle's football is based on intensity, pressing and tactical discipline.
Not every talented player suits that system.
By spending a week or two working with the squad in training and pre-season matches, he'll gain a much better understanding of who can adapt to his demands and where the genuine weaknesses lie.
That could save millions in signing players lined up by Wilson and Eddie Howe who don't suit Jaissle's style of play.
With some of last season's signings not even fitting into Eddie's 4-3-3 the last thing the club and fans want is more square pegs signed for round holes this season.

Patience isn't something that many fans are blessed with when it comes to the speed of signings, and the club have been accused of of taking too long to close deals and being gazumped as faster operators elbow us out.
But if allowing Jaissle time to assess the squad first - if that leads to better recruitment and players who genuinely fit the manager's philosophy, it could prove to be one of the smartest decisions Newcastle make this summer.
PIF have approved up to four signings and I am still confident that at least three will be signed before the window closes.
Sometimes, waiting a little longer is better than getting it wrong.

If we're not fishing in this pond then that would suggest that Jassile and Wilson have another pond with better fish or at least fish that are better suited to the Jassile playing plan. They must have seen something here they were unsure of although it looks like a good deal for Forest.
