New Strip, New Player... What Next?

Newcastle United have unveiled their 26/27 strip and their first major signing of the summer, landing highly-rated French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims on a long-term contract.

£24m Ewen Jaouen Deal

The Magpies fended off competition to seal a £24 million (€28.5m) deal for Ewen who as it stands looks to be an understudy to Nick Pope - but watch this space as Nick is apparently on the radar of Leeds and Ipswich.

The Lowdown on Jaouen

  • The Profile: A towering 6ft 6in, 20-year-old France U21 international who kept 15 clean sheets in Ligue 2 last season.

  • The Style: A modern, proactive shot-stopper known for good distribution, composure under pressure, and dominance in one-on-one situations.

What They Said

"Ewen is an exciting young goalkeeper who has shown real promise... He has a calmness and presence that belies his age." — Eddie Howe, Manager
"The passion of the entire city and the atmosphere at St James' Park are famous throughout football. I can't wait to become a true Geordie." — Ewen Jaouen

Let's hope the young lad is the first of a few top quality signings this summer.

New home strip receives mixed reviews

It's a big change from the standard black and white stripes and my thinking is it will either grow on or off fans as the season progresses.

Oonene thing it does do is date all of the standard B&W strips - and being cynical that might will be deliberate to motivate fans into buying the new one.

What next?

The hacks are hearing rumours that a big signing is on the way to follow on from the new keeper.

The priority is presumably a Gordon replacement so let's see if Eddie gets his way with an early signing with more to follow.

World Cup KO

Mexico v South Africa kicks off the WC and I'll be watching it in a sports bar in Marmaris where me and the missus are currently enjoying balmy hot weatherand ice cold beer.

I’ve just put a bet on that Barry doesn’t mean “unlikely he wouldn’t”

I know, you're thinking this fella will guide me to riches.

But it won't necessarily make you happy!

Anyway, I did get the Canada draw for a tidy sum but hadn't realised USA were actually a good team. I thought the closest they had got to European sports was swinging a club! Maybe Messi has taught them a trick or two.

New tip. Can Qatar get a result off Switzerland? Big underdogs, but they have won the Asian (tin pot) cup a couple times, have beaten Switzerland in their one and only last match up and have a good coach.

And, added, factor. They have loads of money, Switzerland has loads of banks.

A match made in heaven. Draw.

I just copied you and sent it to my mate who puts bets on for me, if we go halves he might change one or two.

There are sources saying victor munoz has agreed personal terms with us until 2031. We will find out soon enough. I suspect in any case even if we got reports of the 2 clubs agreeing a fee , with spain playing monday , its unlikely he wouldnt sign until the end of next week anyways
