Nico Gonzalez: Is This The Real Signing Issue?

Reports that Newcastle are interested in signing Man City midfielder Nico Gonzalez appear to have legs but many fans will be sceptical that this deal could be done.
There is no doubt that he is a top player, you don't play 20 odd games for City in a season if you aren't.
Gonzalez though, a £52M buy just over a year ago, may now find himself down in the pecking order after City signed Elliot Anderson and are now looking to add Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez to their engine room.
That just puts into perspective how far Newcastle are behind the likes of City who could have over £300M of top midfield talent added to their squad when we have been looking at past their best Holjberg and Paulinha.
But, Gonzalez isn't past his best.
The real issue IMO is.... are we the best move for a player of his talent?
That word reality rears its head again.
With the exodus of top players, an unproven PL manager, and many pundits predicting a battle against relegation, why would top player targets like Gonzalez jump at the chance to join us?
We are no longer seen as a club with wealthy new owners, big ambitious plans that seemed achievable, and big money signings jumping on board.
That image brought in Bruno, Botman, Isak, Gordon and Tonali and all,but Botman have now left.
Us fans aren't sure where the club is heading now under PIF - so what chance do top players and their agents have?
That's why, on the one hand, I believe the club are showing an interest in signing Gonzalez - but just like last summer's failure to persuade top players to move to SJP - are we setting our sights too high and wasting precious time?
Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.
Gonzalez would be the type of signing that would create a new level of excitement and be a real statement that not only can we target a player of his calibre but do the deal.
Some fans are already of the opinion that our interest has been leaked to show Gonzalez is available to bring in bigger clubs and bigger offers.
This is where Wilson needs to show his mettle.
He has to read between the lines and the agents guff and make the right decision, and quick. Wilson cannot afford to waste time chasing shadows.
There are 12 days to go before the transfer window closes.
We need at least three new signings.
That's an average of one every four days between now and September 1st.
There isn't any time to waste.

The young lad we are signing from turkey will be loaned back immediately for a season
We've certainly loaded plenty of players into the U21s (and yoiunger) this transfer window. Expectations are going to be high for Robbie Stockdale

Got to disagree on that one, he's very average when attacking from right back.
Looks better going forward on the left but we have Hall for that.
Jo looked worse than average until he was moved back into midfield.
Tino isn't the greatest defender and he has made a name for himself with his skill and forward runs, he also has a decent level of pace.
I agree his end product hasn't been great but that part of his game would improve with training and playing time in a wing back or mid type position.
Guaradiola wanted Tino and he didn't play with traditional FB's so he obviously thought there was another…
