Toon Going from Bad to Worse

Another lead lost as we lose 3-1 at Brentford
For the second game running we were fortunate to score the first goal and instead of using it as a springboard to go on and win we added another game to our away hoodoo to make it nine without a win.
It wasn't just the score that was a carbon copy of the West Ham game, the performance rubber stamped it.
Barnes goal - superbly taken - was the only shot we had on target in the first half and in the second half, other than a brief spell where we dominated possession, we never looked a goal threat.
I thought Burn was lucky to get away with the first penalty appeal when their lad was booked for a dive. Burn's head and eyes in the air after the lad went down was proof to me he thought it would be a pen.
The second time it didn't look like a penalty but there was no way the ref or VAR were going to back down on the pen decision and off Burn went for a second yellow.
The sending off solves one problem for Eddie; Hall will now play LB against Man City at SJP - but Eddie has a load of other more serious problems to work on after our fifth defeat in eleven Prem games.
As others have rightly said...
We've never really hit form this season and even our cup wins, other than possibly USG away, have been welcome but definitely not wonderful.
Yet again today we looked woefully short of attacking ideas and flair, almost going through the motions instead of attacking with drive, purpose and intent.
We continually gave the ball away, overplayed passes when we had possession, and wasted the few breaks we had with a poor final ball.
I am not going to criticise individual players because this was a collectively bad team performance which, after the same was served up at West Ham, is a huge concern.
IMO our 433 looks jaded and, without our previous all action high press, it is becoming far too easy for teams to play through our lines and put us under pressure.
Our league form so far, and especially the last two away games, has given us fans plenty to be concerned about and the knives will be being hoyed in all directions by some.
I have no doubt that Eddie is just as, if not more, concerned than we are and that he will be doing some serious thinking about every aspect of our game during the international break.
The table doesn't make good reading for Eddie and his coaching team, Toon players, us fans... or PIF.

Funny world when we are mostly complaining about our 3 players who just got England call ups.
Pope seems unable to read the flight of the ball so his judgement on whether to come for crosses is suspect. But what the feck was Botman doing flicking the ball back across goal. So much of top level football is down to decision making in a split second. Surely they train for that though.
Eddie’s greatest fault is loyalty and being risk averse. Eddie, we don’t mind if you upset a few delicate egos, and we don’t mind if you take a few risks. Think about how you can threaten the opposition before you worry about how you can contain them.
That’s 2 away games on the bounce that we’ve taken the lead in, but then become very passive…
This is only going to get worse before it gets better.
Our next run of fixtures is probably the hardest on paper that we have had so far this season.
We have certainly had bad spells in the past, but I think this is the only time I have seen the manager under genuine pressure, and rightly so.
Just to be clear no way am I calling for Eddie's head - just saying yesterday he made a monumental error leaving Burn on at Left Back.
by the chronicle pif are sticking by eddie howe and rightly so, its the players who are doing the damage not the manager, fair enough he should have taken burn off height or no height he was a problem, I am going to say this I fully expect some crap coming my way but here goes, id transfer list botman, gordon and big joe, id also bring in there replacements during jan, the reason with botman is fair enough livarfool maybe after him but he is a major injury concern for me and thats the reason id sell, gordon well how many times has he let the club down with red cards and honestly playing shit but plays great for…
