NEWSFEED: Who Could Replace Matthias Jaissle as Newcastle United Manager?

With Newcastle United struggling for form and Matthias Jaissle coming under increasing pressure, an obvious question is beginning to emerge among supporters.

If Newcastle decided to sack Jaissle, who could realistically replace him?

The German manager has endured a difficult period, with Newcastle losing four of their last five matches in all competitions. Monday's 1–0 home defeat against Everton only increased the frustration surrounding the team.

However, fresh reports suggest Newcastle's hierarchy remains firmly behind Jaissle and has no immediate intention of making a managerial change.

That has not stopped speculation about potential successors.

Several names have appeared in recent media reports, although there is an important distinction between managers being suggested by journalists and candidates Newcastle are actually pursuing.

Are Newcastle Planning to Sack Jaissle?

According to TEAMtalk on Thursday, Newcastle's owners and sporting director Ross Wilson remain committed to Jaissle.

The report suggests the club recognises that rebuilding the squad and implementing a new playing philosophy will take time.

Newcastle are also reportedly prepared to support the manager with further investment during the January transfer window.

Football Insider previously reported that Newcastle had considered contingency plans but were concerned about the shortage of obvious replacements.

There is currently no confirmed decision to sack Jaissle, nor evidence that Newcastle have opened formal negotiations with another manager.

Nevertheless, supporters may reasonably wonder what alternatives would be available if results fail to improve.

Could Cesc Fàbregas Become Newcastle's Next Manager?

One of the more interesting possibilities is former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas.

Fàbregas has attracted attention for his work with Italian club Como, where his attacking approach and emphasis on possession have enhanced his coaching reputation.

Football Insider has previously linked him with Newcastle as a potential successor to Jaissle.

His Premier League experience as a player would be an advantage, while his coaching methods could appeal to a club looking to establish a modern attacking identity.

However, persuading him to leave Como could be difficult, particularly given his involvement in the club's wider project.

Would Julian Nagelsmann Consider Newcastle United?

Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann is another name appearing in lists of potential Newcastle candidates.

Still only 39, Nagelsmann has considerable experience at the highest level and is known for his tactical flexibility.

His ability to use different formations could be attractive given the current debate about whether Newcastle's squad is suited to Jaissle's preferred 4-2-3-1 system.

However, Nagelsmann would be a high-profile appointment, and there is no confirmed indication that he is interested in taking the Newcastle job.

What About Kieran McKenna?

Kieran McKenna earned considerable praise for his work at Ipswich Town, where he established a reputation for developing players and building an effective attacking team.

His experience in English football and ability to work with younger players could make him an interesting option for Newcastle's long-term project.

He has been mentioned in recent media speculation, although his Premier League managerial record is less established than that of some alternatives.

As with the other names discussed, there is no confirmed Newcastle approach.

Could Newcastle Appoint an Experienced Manager?

Former France manager Didier Deschamps has also been suggested as a possible candidate.

His achievements include winning the World Cup with France in 2018, while his previous club-management experience includes Monaco, Juventus and Marseille.

He would bring extensive experience of managing high-profile players and handling pressure.

However, his background is very different from Newcastle's recent preference for younger, development-focused coaches.

Whether he would be interested in the challenge is another question entirely.

Could Eddie Howe Return to Newcastle?

Perhaps the most intriguing name is former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

Howe left St James' Park during the summer after almost five years in charge, having delivered the Carabao Cup and Champions League qualification.

He remains a respected figure among many Newcastle supporters.

A return so soon after his departure would be highly unusual, particularly given the circumstances surrounding his decision to step away.

Howe has also been linked with Manchester United.

There is no credible evidence at present that Newcastle are considering bringing him back and my belief he wouldn't for the simple fact that financial restrictions at the club affected his ambitions and still would.

Who Would Be the Best Fit for Newcastle?

If Newcastle eventually decide to make a change, the decision would involve considerably more than selecting the biggest name available.

The club would need to consider whether a prospective manager could work effectively with the existing squad, adapt his tactics to the players available and develop the younger signings brought in during the summer.

There would also be questions about Premier League experience, compensation payments and whether the preferred candidate would actually be willing to accept the job.

Fàbregas, Nagelsmann, McKenna and Deschamps all offer different qualities, but none can currently be described as Newcastle's chosen successor.

For now, Jaissle remains in charge and retains the reported backing of the club's hierarchy.

Saturday's visit to Fulham offers another opportunity to improve results and ease the growing pressure.

But if Newcastle's poor form continues, the question of who might replace him is unlikely to disappear.
