Nonsense Inspires Gordon In Bridge Battle

Anthony Gordon rightly called out the pundits - including Alan Shearer -for their "nonsense" in implying that he should have started the games against Barcelona.
He had been ill for the previous three days and it was Eddie Howe's decision after consulting the medical staff to bench him. Did the pundits get a medical report?
Gordon and Ramsey cook Chelsea
Gordon Ramsey serves dishes on a plate and Newcastle's version had a recipe that left a bitter taste in the the mouth of Chelsea and their supporters.
Gordon's goal may have been a tap in - after a defence splitting ball from Tino and an unselfish pass from Joe Willock - but that was only a part of the role Anthony played in this win.
His constant pressing coupled with his chasing back to help defend was an outstanding feature of his game.
This lad gives his all in every game and no more so than when playing as a ST. The miles he put in last night must have not been far off a half marathon.
As for Jacob Ramsey, this lad just gets better every game.
He seems to have the knack of always receiving the ball in a position where he can move straight on a run into the heart of the oppo. a part of his game that he was renowned for at Aston Villa.

Missing Bruno, Tonali and Jo from the starting line up most fans - including me - were rightly concerned on how our makeshift midfield of Willock, Ramsey and Woltemade would stand up.
Well stand up they did, and Eddie will find it hard to leave Ramsey out when the 'big three' mids are all back in contention.
A clean sheet at last
Chelsea may have claimed the lion's share of possession but the Magpies feathers were unruffled. The only roar was from the Toon fans at the end of the game.
This season fans are well used to the team conceding after we have gone ahead, conceding last minute goals, and conceding points.
Not this time.
Ramsdale made a couple of very decent saves, Delap and James fluffed a couple of chances - but apart from that Chelsea were as toothless as me fatha was after having all of his nashers taken out by the dentist.
That wasn't just down to a poor show by Chelsea - it was also down to Newcastle defending as a team and staying disciplined and organised throughout the game.
We need that same defensive performance repeated against Barcelona .
Massive games coming up
Barcelona and Sunderland.
In a season where the highs have almost always been followed by a low...
How magical would it be if we beat Barcelona on Wednesday and put Sunderland to the sword on Sunday. A two card trick that will mesmerise every Toon fan.
Our away form has suddenly picked up and the Chelsea win will see Eddie and the squad bouncing on their journey to the Nou Camp,
Sunderland's form has dropped off and we have every chance of pushing them over the cliff at SJP.
This season might have been frustrating and at times gut wrenching - but one thing it has never been is boring.
And, what a full on exciting week of football lies ahead of us,

He's been a far worse signing than Wolt. Maybe won't ever be the player he was post the big injury. All very frustrating, particularly when you consider his age and the inflated fee. Under more ordinary circumstances, it's almost a sackable offence for a manager. That won't happen, but Eddie needs a good window, and a good preseason, to put some distance between us and the worst of it all. You would hope going forward Wissa can at least make some sort of contribution.
Rosenior chose technical discourse as his not entirely convincing explanation: “It’s a new way of pressing … the press was the reason Newcastle had to kick long balls back to us and we controlled the game.” A more conventional view was that rank bad defending and disjointed attacking play had again been Chelsea’s problem. Hahaha. Well said.
The £55m Question: Why Yoane Wissa is Struggling at Newcastle | NUFC Blog
Great performance at the weekend, can't fault any of the players as I thought they all played their part and gave a great defensive performance. Only works that well if everyone is putting their shift in and sticking to the plan. So well done to all!
I'll happily continue to defend Wolt. Read back through comments and still getting some stick is mad. Not only is it his first season in a new league and new country, he's now being asked to play in a completely new position and provide defensive cover in that position. Being part of a midfield 3 is no easy task, so to give it to Wolt who's never done it before.....absolutely fair play to him…

Apparently Frank Chipp reckons he took the photo.
