Sunday 25 October 2026
Newcastle United returned to winning ways with an impressive 2–0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this afternoon, providing some much-needed relief for Matthias Jaissle and his players.
Following disappointing defeats against Coventry City and Aston Villa, Newcastle arrived in London under pressure to deliver a response.
And this time, they did.
Osula Breaks the Deadlock
After a goalless first half, William Osula put Newcastle ahead just two minutes after the restart, scoring in the 47th minute.
It was an important moment for the young striker, whose opportunities and potential have been the subject of considerable discussion among Newcastle supporters.
Harvey Barnes doubled Newcastle's advantage in the 58th minute, putting the Magpies firmly in control.
Five Changes Pay Off
Jaissle made five changes to his starting line-up, a significant decision following criticism of his recent team selections and tactics.
The result will certainly strengthen his case that changes were necessary, although one victory does not resolve every question surrounding Newcastle's performances this season.
More importantly, Newcastle secured three points and a clean sheet away from home, moving up to seventh in the Premier League table as it stands.
A Much-Needed Confidence Boost
After a difficult period, this was exactly the sort of result Newcastle needed.
Osula getting on the scoresheet, Barnes finding the net and the defence keeping a clean sheet are all positives to take into the next fixture.
The challenge now is to build on this victory and establish some consistency.
Final score: Crystal Palace 0–2 Newcastle United.
