Elanga Set for Newcastle Return – But Fernandez-Pardo Faces Late Fitness Test
Newcastle United could welcome Anthony Elanga back into the squad for Sunday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, but there are fresh concerns over Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Matthias Jaissle has confirmed that Elanga has returned to training following the injury that kept him out of Newcastle's last four Premier League matches.
The Swedish winger is not yet ready for a full 90 minutes, but Jaissle is hopeful he can make the travelling squad and potentially play some part at Selhurst Park.
That's encouraging news for a Newcastle side desperately needing more attacking options.
Fernandez-Pardo Still Struggling
The news is less encouraging for summer signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
The Belgian forward has been struggling with illness following Newcastle's defeat to Aston Villa and has only been able to train partially.
His availability for Sunday's match remains uncertain.
With Newcastle already struggling to create clear-cut opportunities, losing another attacking player would be a significant setback.
Ramsey Back on the Grass
There was also a positive update on Jacob Ramsey.
The midfielder has returned to outdoor training, although Jaissle stressed that Newcastle will take a cautious approach to his recovery.
A return to full match fitness is still some way off, and the club is unwilling to rush him back.
Selection Decisions Ahead
Newcastle travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday knowing that another disappointing performance will only increase the pressure on Jaissle.
Elanga's possible return could give the Magpies some much-needed pace and attacking threat, even if he is restricted to a substitute appearance.
Would you put Elanga straight back into the squad on Sunday, or should Newcastle avoid taking any risks with his fitness?

I've obviously been out of the loop, I have Pardo in my bingo team 🙃
