Elliott Anderson Transfer News

Rumours persist that Anderson is top of Man Utd's midfield shopping list - but could Eddie step in and bring him back home?

Having to sell Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest because of PSR really stuck in the craw of Eddie Howe and his form since leaving has only made that feeling worse.

It's not only his Prem form that has got other clubs interested and fans across the country singing his praises - he has also excelled for the England team and now looks a cert to be in the squad for the World Cup.

The Geordie Maradona

During his time at Bristol Rovers then manager Joey Barton dubbed Anderson the 'Geordie Maradona' for his skill and crucial role in the team's promotion to League One.

That probably overly raised the expectations of Toons fans when he arrived back at SJP after his loan spell.

That expectation level worked against him and I can remember some comments on Ed's blog that, after his early performances for NUFC, he was no better than a Championship player. How wrong they were.

He was only 20 when he made his debut and such was the form of our midfield three that he never got a run in the side. In truth, his move and then quickly becoming a fixture in the Forest side has catapulted his career in a way that he wouldn't have got here.

I'm convinced Eddie Howe wants him back

Eddie has made no secret of not only bemoaning his sale but also that he would love Anderson to be back wearing black and white.

Could that happen?

Where there is a will there is a way and surely Anderson would prefer to pull on our shirt rather than the red of Man U if he had the choice.

Forest are apparently demanding £100M+ to even consider selling him but that fee will be as much of a 'hands off' and negotiating ploy as it is a realistic figure. Unless, that is, he has a storming World Cup.

Could a player plus cash deal be attractive to both clubs?

This season has been an about turn for Forest.

After a CL challenging season last time out they are now second bottom with Nuno gone.

If they are still in a relegation place by the time the January window opens new Forest manager Sean Dyche might decide some fresh faces are needed.

With players like Lascelles, Schar, Krafth and Trippier near the end of their contracts and the likes of Willock and Osula struggling to get into the team there just might be an opportunity for a trade.

Anderson won't come here as a squad player

If Eddie is serious about bringing Anderson back he won't be spending £70M+ unless he has a starting place lined up - and Anderson will definitely want assurances on that.

It won't be to replace Tonali or Bruno so it would be Jo's place that could be under threat.

It's all if's and but's with the big one being are Eddie's comments on Anderson regret tinged with nostalgia, or is Anderson a genuine target.

On thing is for certain; if Anderson goes to the World Cup and has a stormer his selling price will be a nailed on £100M+ and the competition for his signature will go into overdrive.

If Eddie really does want Anderson the time IMO to go all out is in January.

Do you agree? Or do you think we are OK in midfield, or that we should go for other targets?

On topic I don't think we'll see Anderson back here until the twilight of his career - similar to Beardsley.

(I'm waiting at the Dentist - can you tell I'm bored? 😁)

@AGM I can't agree about Eddie Howe - yes hopefully there's more success to come but he's already done enough to be in The Hall of Fame in my opinion.

Congratulations to Scotland - I like to see all Home Nations teams doing well even though they hate us 😉

It was an exciting game to watch but I have to agree with AGM the penalty and red card were dreadful decisions. No way could you tell if any body part was in the box from the camera angles they showed certainly not enough to overule and there was no obvious foul for the red card but I guess the decisions evened out.

3 cracking goals though

There were 3 inductees in the NUFC Foundation Hall of Fame this week. Glenn Roeder and John Anderson, fair enough. But Eddie Howe? Too soon IMO. Yes he's doing great things and is our most successful gaffer in decades but his journey isn't done. I think his future achievements will surpass everything so far achieved. The legend is still being built.
