Four Former Regulars Could Be Sidelined In Jaissle's Revolution
With Gordon, Tonali, Bruno and Trippier all gone from the team that Eddie Howe played week in week out - four more regular first team players may find themselves sidelined.
Nick Pope has now dropped to third choice GK behind Hornicek and Jaouen but he isn't the only former first name on the team sheet that may have to settle for less under MJ.
New vice captain Joelinton when fit faces a challenge to get back into the side especially in Jaissle's 4231 system.
He won't be playing in the 3 or 1 which only leaves a place in the 2 where Nico and Miley have already staked their claims.
I thought Jo did well in a deeper role in pre-season and his physical presence and strength in dispossessing the opp might well be suited to playing alongside Nico, but I see that more in a sub role than as a starter.
Next up in the potential sidelined stakes is club captain Dan Burn.
A fantastic buy at just £13M BDB has been a terrific servant to the club he has supported since he was a bairn growing up in Blyth.
But, at 34, he could now go from being in England's WC squad to battling it out with Sven Botman for a starting place in the back four.
He won't displace Lewis Hall at LB that;s for sure and in the twilight of his career if Botman gets back to near his best Big Dan may be another former starter who spends more time warming the bench.
After being a regular starter the previous season - his best in goals and assists in his time at SJP -Jacob Murphy started last season on the bench after the £55M signing of Anthony Elanga.
Elanga's struggles meant Murphy was a regular starter but Elanga's electric goal scoring start to this season could see Murphy becoming a back up if Anthony's form continues.
Hall, Thiaw & Barnes The Only Survivors
At the end of last season I posed the question of whether it would be evolution or revolution that was needed to revive a squad and performances that had gone stale.
Well...
If the French thought they had a canny revoltion in 1789 it's nowt compared to the one Newcastle had in 2026.
Up to eight first team starters overthrown and Emperor Eddie gave himself the chop.
In one quick drop the guillotine has removed the heads of many of the former rulers and replaced them with a new regime under a new General.
Us fans, the revolting peasants, are giving the revolutionaries our full support and the march to overthrow the elite of the PL has got off to a good start.
As me fatha Bill always used to tell me...
Nowt stays the same son.
As 2026 at NUFC has proved.

The new manager must see a role for Joelinton otherwise he wouldn't have made him vice captain??
Without Joelinton, we have no physical players. Not that that is the be all and end all but we miss that without him.
Even our two current starting CBs are not that physical. Botman maybe at times but seems to be missing that edge. Thiaw is athletic but seems more finesse. Burn when he is in brings that to the team. But midfield players - only big Joe.
As for Pope. Maybe he is gone in January when a championship or even Premier league club finds themselves in a keeper crisis due to injury or poor results.

William Osula - Ankle/Foot Injury - Sept 03:
I don't know if the Danish journalists have more information than I have, I doubt, therefore I will not be a participant of these rumours.
Will Osula is working hard in re-hab and will be back…
Be wouldn't be writing off home Joel, in the two midfield pivots, and also farther winger/midfield. The important that we have balance in the midfield, with will more asked from all fullbacks, Hall, Livra, Didec and Miley, all top players.
If big Joe wants to stay then he has to take a pay cut. Maybe he could have a bonus clause for goals scored?
