With Victor Muñoz on his way to Liverpool, the rumour machine has kicked in with four players reportedly next up for consideration as Anthony Gordon's replacement.
Abde Ezzalzouli (Real Betis): The 24-year-old former Barcelona product has established himself as a premier La Liga winger and was a strong contender before our bids for Munoz.. Reports indicate he holds a £51 million release clause.
Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig): The highly-rated Norwegian international is rumoured to be on Newcastle’s radar and is currently at the World Cup with his national team.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo (Lille): The versatile forward scored eight goals and provided seven assists in Ligue 1 last season and is with Belgium's squad in the US.
Bazoumana Touré (Hoffenheim): The 20 year old is a rising talent who already has a £40M price tag placed on him by his club.
Quick signing would ease the pain
Whether it's one of the above four or a player currently under the radar the best way to ease the pain of losing out on Munoz is to get a top player in quickly.
We can't sign every player we go for, no club does. Bayern lost out to Barcelona on Gordon, so let's not go too far overboard on criticising the club.
However, the fact remains that we've lost out on too many targets; Mbuemo, Pedro, Delap, Ekitike, Sesko, Trafford and now Munoz.
It's old ground now but the common link between those players is that the established 'big' clubs were all interested and when a player's choice is us or City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or even Man U, history is telling us we'll lose out.
But, it's not over until the fat lady sings...
So let's wait and see how the window pans out and who we sign before making an early judgement just because Munoz slipped the net.

Liverpool at Home Kicks Off The 26/27 Season

Everybody can talk all they like about it not being the club's fault about Munoz, but in the end they didn't offer the full release clause. If they had done that two weeks ago, while Irola was just getting his feet under the table at the Bindippers, the player would have been ours, but he isn't, and yet again we are made to look like a Championship outfit.
There's a danger of a domino effect
Not getting in Munoz sends a warning signal to other potential players that there's other options out there for their Agents to exploit. Danger is that greedy Agents will exert undue influence on their younger players to ensure their own pay day
Our existing squad will be watching as well.
After last seasons transfer fiasco and not getting Munox they'll be looking for reassurance that we are recruiting the right talent.
