Are Newcastle United In Danger Of Relegation?

2 min read

Newcastle United supporters began this season hoping to challenge for European football. Ten Premier League games later, a very different question is emerging:

Could Newcastle actually be relegated?

Saturday's 1-1 draw at Fulham did little to ease concerns, with Matthias Jaissle's side again failing to secure a much-needed victory.

How Close Are Newcastle to the Relegation Zone?

Newcastle currently sit 11th in the Premier League with 12 points from 10 matches, just five points above the bottom three.

With only three league victories so far, Newcastle are averaging 1.2 points per game.

Continue at that rate and they would finish with approximately 46 points — normally enough to avoid relegation.

But that assumes results don't deteriorate further.

Could Newcastle Be Dragged Into a Relegation Battle?

The concern isn't simply Newcastle's league position. It's the lack of consistency,

questionable recruitment decisions and continued uncertainty over Jaissle's preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

The international break now gives the manager an opportunity to address those problems.

Newcastle have sufficient quality in their squad to be comfortably clear of relegation trouble, but quality alone doesn't guarantee Premier League survival.

Will Newcastle United Go Down?

At present, relegation looks unlikely — but it can no longer be dismissed entirely if performances and results continue to disappoint.

The immediate priority must be to start winning football matches.

Because if Newcastle reach Christmas still struggling for points, the question supporters are asking today could become considerably more serious.

With Newcastle's results continuing to disappoint, supporters are also asking whether Matthias Jaissle could lose his job if the team's fortunes fail to improve.

We also discuss who is responsible for the problems that Newcastle have which is making relegation a fear that many fans have.
