Matias Fernandez-Pardo: Do We Need Another Winger?

Reports that the club have bid £34M for Lille left winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo are a bit of a surprise considering we already have Barnes and recently signed young Toure.

The 21 year old player has apparently told the club he wants to leave but Lille are in no rush to sell and won't consider it unless they find a replacement and, even if they do, the asking fee would be in the region of £50M.

The lad looks a tricky player, with plenty of pace, but why would we be interested when Toure is just a year younger and was bought for £43M?

Pardo has played as a CF so it may well be that is the position he is being targeted for and he has also played as a RW and a 10.

But, he is still young and the club and Wilson will be heaping a lot of responsibility on players with little first team experience and none in the PL.

Osula needs to repeat his form at the end of last season and Wissa needs to turn the excellence of his Liverpool performance into goals to add a cutting edge to MJ's front foot football.

With Woltemade seemingly unlikely to feature as a ST in our new 4-2-3-1 line up it means we have just two ST's in the squad and an injury to either would leave us vulnerable.

Unless Wilson and Jaissle see Pardo as a player who can also play through the middle might that £35M-£40M he would cost be better spent on a specialist ST?

Deadline Day Closing In

Whoever and for whatver reason Wilson has his sights on, he has only seven days left to bring in the players he is targetting.

If he is interested in Pardo then waiting for Lille to sign a replacement is not on, Lille need to jump to our demands, not theirs, or Wilson needs to look elsewhere.

As for Gonzalez, the longer it takes for the reports to result in a signature on a contract the more fans will fear another gazumping to add to Munoz and Manzambi.

Wilson had a lot to prove this summer.

The next seven days will make or break his reputation.

The four young signings bring hope and excitement, Hornicek and Dedic have started well, but the icing on the cake still hasn't been added.

Matthias Jaissle urgently needs first team ready additions to his squad, especially in midfield, and wherever else he has signalled an urgency to Ross Wilson.

If Wilson delivers a minimum of two quality players, and even better three, in the short time he has left he will deserve a big round of applause.

Lets hope we are all clapping hard on September 1st.

Genclerbirligi SK manager Metin Diyadin claims Newcastle United have completed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Ousmane Diabate.

Sources close to Newcastle backed up reports in Turkey that Diabate had travelled to Tyneside last week to undergo his medical. The Magpies are yet to officially announce his arrival, but according to Diyadin, the transfer is done.

And he's gone back on loan to the club we bought him from, which is a good move.
