Millwall 0 Newcastle 1: Little To Roar About In The Lion's Den

Newcastle overcame an injury depleted Millwall side with a performance that was hardly a roaring one. But a win is a win no matter how you play and we are into the next round.
In truth, we rode our luck and were lucky not to get bitten in The Den.
Shot Shy Attack Yet Again
It's seems harsh to be critical when under Jaissle Newcastle are unbeaten in five competitive games, have scored in every one, and have notched a total of ten goals.
However, yet again, last night for all of our dominant possession we only had one shot on target in the opening hour, a shot shy stat that continues to raise its head.
With the defence continuing to look shaky - what was Tino doing when Millwall hit the post - scoring ten goals from so few shots on target across five games, isn't a stat that is likely to keep bearing fruit.
And, yet again, last night Wissa was a shadow of the player as a ST than the performances he has put in as a 10 and if Jaissle comes to that conclusion then along with the win that will be another benefit of progressing to the next round.
In my post yesterday my view was that Pardo should play the ST role and Wissa the 10 but whatever Jaissle decides that shot shy stat needs a big improvement.
Work In Progress... But No Defeats
As I said earlier it's hard to be critical after three wins and two draws in our first five competitive games under a new manager and with eight new signings.
Results are far more important than performances and it was results that most fans were worried about before a ball was kicked this season.
However, Jaissle's reputation for a strong press, quick vertical passing, and dynamic attacking style of play has yet to come to the fore as the team and the individual players adapt to the 4231 system.
The fact that a period of adapting has still produced results is a testament to the spirit and teamwork in the squad as was witnessed in coming from two goals down against Bournemouth.
That spirit I am sure will be there in abundance in training and, sooner rather than later, Jaissle will find the right players in the right positions to make his system click.
Patience from fans is so much easier when the team isn't losing games.

I think we will play Pardo as a central striker - not your Shearer type back to goal but more your Isak running on to through balls and early crosses.
In fact I think he is probably closer to an Isak replacement than Wissa or Woltemade ever were!!
Talksport are clearly distressed that Lewis Hall has a new super 5year contract with United.
So they lash out by saying that Salford town reds will just buy him next summer anyway.
Cringe worthy bunch of charlatans.

Great post as that as it's what we want to hear.
Depending on who we are playing and player fitness you can see the attraction in Pardo/Wissa and Osula/Wissa combinations
Will we see Pardo/Osula starting together is another option.
Or Pardu/Osula/Wissa on occasions.
