Newcastle 3 West Brom 2: Gonzalez Signs: Pardo Still Alive?

3 min read

New signing Nico Gonzalez was introduced before the game and received a rapturous welcome to the Toon. It's said he wanted to be at a club where he was loved... well this was akin to love at first sight.

Now, he just needs to show he'll be the perfect partner for Miley in midfield.

Barnes Does It Again

After Jouen was caught out by a clever free kick and Toure equalised it was that man Barnes again who scored the two goals that saw off a spirited West Brom side.

The Mighty Wyn's son was giving Barnes pelters in the pub before the game on Sunday - "he;s lazy" "selfish" "can't beat a man or cross" - that type of stuff.

To put it mildly, I didn't agree.

But, to a degree, other fans have made the same criticisms of Barnes.

And, on the blog, there were a good few who had Toure over Barnes in Jezza's Bingo for the Liverpool game.

Given that most fans believe we will struggle to score goals this season it's a head scratcher for me that the one consistent goal scorer we have at the club, Harvey Barnes, isn't considered a nailed on first eleven starter.

Wor Harvey has that instinct to be in the right place when the ball is in the box - and that's a quality that is really hard to train into a player.

That's why he will always score goals, as he has done throughout his career so far.

Steur: Old Head, Young Shoulders

I am almost in awe of this lad

How someone so young can be so calm on the ball, have his teammates so confident to pass to him even with a man close, make the right passing decisions whether that be the obvious one short or long, or incisive between the lines... is uncanny at his age.

He may have to wait to be a regular in a starting eleven, but how good could Steur be in two or three years time?? And he'll still be only 20-21.

Ross Wilson and his scouting team have pulled a masterstroke off signing this lad.

He Who Has To Be Mentioned

And, no, it's not Madley who lived up to his name with a shedload of mad decisions, none worse than not giving a foul for a two handed pull back on Elanga's shirt at the end.

If Madley is deemed a professional referee Howard Webb needs to revist the qualification process. The man is a walking, card flurrying, whistling disaster.

So, yes, it's Woltemade who has to be mentioned.

It's all been said, again and again, about Big Nick's issues at the Toon and in the PL.

The more he plays, the more we see the same evidence that he just doesn't fit.

It's bad enough buying a cheap Primark suit for £40 that doesn't fit, but if you pay £400 for a Boss one and it hangs off your backside and you have to roll up the sleeves to see your mitts... you'd take it back and ask for a refund.

You'd see the manager, and in this case it's Jaissle who has to make the decision on whether to do the alterations to make him fit... or get a refund by cutting our losses.

Sometimes things just don't work out. Sadly, Woltemade may be in that category.

Spurs on Saturday, Millwall in the Cup

The Spurs game is live on Sky at 17/30pm and after their opening day defeat all the pressure is on De Zerbi to show that £400M has made them a better team.

The balloons will be going up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Jezza will be planning on giving them a good prick - tut, tut, you know what I mean - to burst their hopes and record our first PL win of the season.

If you are going to The Den for the Millwall cup game get your boxing gloves order in early. Stocks are already selling out fast.

Pardo Not Dead Yet?

Lille apparently have a replacement lined up and up is what they have done to the fee they are asking for Pardo - it's apparently gone from 50, 60 to 70 million euro's.

Spurs balloons don't go up that quickly.

It could be all part of the negotiation game so until the ballon bursts who knows.

With Nico now nicked from Man City, and many of their fans thinking we've got a steal, Ross Wilson has four days to rob another couple of banks and add some jewels to Jaissle's squad.

It could be an exciting end to the window.

Ross needs to get his mask on and smash and grab his targets.

Hes excluded from the squad because hes kicking up a huge fuss and refusing to train or show up etc. Hes doing an isak.

lille fans want him gone, they are raging at his attitude and saying its night and day to the guy they just sold to city who is humble and did things the right way and even took a page out in the local newspapers to say good bye to lille fans.

They are saying Pardo is an extremely bad egg and they just want him gone and that hes not even worth the €70M that lille want.

This doesnt sound like a player profile id like tbh.

On their first goal last night.Jaouen set the two men up,but didn't the ref move them to the keepers right nearer where he put the chalk down?

Even so maybe a 3 man wall would have been better.

We live and learn,as everyday's a school day.

LOSC Lille manager Davide Ancelotti announced on Thursday that Matias Fernandez-Pardo (21) has been excluded from the first-team squad until the transfer window closes.

Trying what Colin suggested.

Sounds promising. I’m impressed with the recruitment we’ve done so far, especially with Eddie’s replacement. Things can only get better!
