Newcastle Draw Manchester City In The FA Cup

This season doesn't get any easier.

After being in arguably the hardest group in the Champions League and playing at home to Manchester City in the first leg of the Carabou Cup, the Toon have been drawn at home to Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

FA Cup Fifth Round Draw

  • Fulham v Southampton

  • Port Vale or Bristol City v Sunderland

  • Newcastle v Manchester City

  • Leeds United v Norwich City

  • Mansfield Town v Arsenal

  • Wolves v Liverpool

  • Wrexham v Chelsea

  • West Ham v Brentford

The other top teams left in the cup, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have avoided each other, have relatively easy games, and will be expected to progress to the next round.

That means the last eight in the 6th round draw will likely consist of six Premier League teams as three of the 5th round games are all PL ties.

If Newcastle are to win their first FA Cup in 71 years - the last being in1955 when I was a two year old toddler - it will be a huge battle just to get into the next round never mind to the final at Wembley in May.

And who did we beat in the1955 final? Manchester City!

As the Blog's Wiki Man BPH pointed out yesterday, no team has played more games this season than Newcastle United and this gruelling fixture list continues tomorrow night in Baku when we face Qarabag in the first leg of the CL play offs.

If we get through the play offs and into the Champions League knock out stages this season of piled high, two games a week, non stop fixtures will continue.

But... as fans are we complaining?

Absolutely not.

I was at Central Station along with my dad and many others to welcome the lads back from winning that cup in 55. Very exciting for an 11 year old.

Love to see them beat city on the way to winning it again!
