It's Time To Stop Mourning

We are still only six points off 5th place

The West Ham and Brentford defeats left all of us fans shell shocked and the teeth are just beginning to edge back into place after the kicking they've been given.

Those who say football is only a game have no idea how wrong they are.

A defeat for the Toon is bad enough at anytime, and by any team, but the crushing blow to the gut felt after those defeats - and especially when the horror show of West Ham was almost duplicated at Brentford - is only felt and experienced by true diehard fans.

Black clouds of doom swirl around inside the head, pouring down rain and dampening our spirits, bringing gloom and despondency to all thoughts NUFC.

But... that mourning can't go on and the time to start looking forward positively again is now. We need to build up a head of steam and get ready to steamroller Man City at SJP.

Altogether now... Always look on the bright side of life

Forget about the last two away games, forget about being two points above a relegation place, forget about who's been crap, what system Eddie should have played, and who he should have played instead of whoever...

Let's think about the squad of internationals we've got, let's think about being in the QF of the EFL Cup, let's think about winning our last three CL group games, let's think about being only six points off 5th place in the Prem.

And... let's continue to believe in Eddie Howe, the man who has taken us from relegation fodder to eating at the top table; qualifying for the CL twice in four seasons and winning the club's first domestic trophy in 70 years.

One thing is for certain - Eddie Howe won't be walking around the training ground and SJP with a look of gloom on his face. When the going gets tough people look to their leader for inspiration and I bet Eddie is exuding confidence in spades.

Before the Brentford result it's easy to forget that we had won seven in 10 games.

I am not trying to hide the fact that we have problems, that our inconsistent performances and awful away form has to be sorted and put right... but I absolutely believe that we have the talent in the squad and the management team to do it.

And there is no better way to start that turnaround than by beating Man City.

If the lads turn City over the SJP crowd and fans watching and listening on TV and radio will go daft and delirious, the doom clouds will be blown away, and we'll be dancing and singing our way roond the Toon like happy skipping bairns.

And the best thing?

We are well capable of beating City.

So... keep the faith, hoy away the gloom and...

Always look on the bright side of life dah dah, dah dah, dah dah dah dah dah dah :)

Anybody who thinks Burn isn't walking straight back into Howe's team needs to wake up from dreamland.

So long as it isn't LB, then fine, as he is a decent CB, but in reality Botman is supposed to be our long-term replacement, so I would rather see him play.

Then again, I can honestly see 5 at the back just so he doesn't have to drop any of the center backs, as our manager's love for Burn is undiminished lol.

Rise and shine ...

World governing body Fifa, wants to see 60 minutes of football from a 90-minute game. It came closest to that at the 2022 World Cup by adding lots of stoppage time - but even then the average ball-in-play time was 59 minutes and 28 seconds.

It was about 45minutes when we played Liverpool due to their incessant whining and complaining.

VAR can't be helping

Gawd help us if the Yanks start campaigning for sponsor breaks to suit their TV audiences and pop corn selling ground merchants.

Work to do.

Some players fitted straight into the team and did there job on arrival you could say. Examples are Supermac, Tony Green and Keegan, probably many more which I can’t call to mind at the moment. Woltemade has grabbed a few goals from the start and as Nicky said it’s just the beginning and the potential is there to fit in and get better. ps: not forgetting Shearer!
