Newcastle take on Manchester City on Wednesday 4th February at 8pm in the second leg of the Carabou Cup Semi-Final at the Etihad. The Toon start the game 2-0 down from the first leg at SJP and have a huge task to get through to the Final.

HERE IS THE PRESS CONFERENCE LINK Newcastle United

You can watch Eddie Howe's press conference live on the blog via a link on this page that will be posted up at about 9.15am this morning in advance of the live start at 9.30am.

Eddie will no doubt be asked about the collapse at Liverpool, our continuing inconsistent form, and there may be some searching questions on his reasons for starting the match without both Wissa and Woltemade.

Questions are also sure to be asked about the transfer window with no signings to provide cover for a back four currently shorn of key players.

In summary; it won't be a 'pat on the back' presser. Far from it.

The last time Eddie faced what he saw as criticism he didn't react in his usual calm and unruffled manner. His frustration was evident and, on the back of three games without a win and a faltering PL campaign, it will interesting to see how he reacts if the media turn on the heat.

Eddie will also be asked about the injury situation with Miley and Botman now added to the list of Tino, Krafth, Schar, Bruno and Jo.

At 2-0 down to City will Eddie decide not to risk key players in a semi-final that most fans have already written off? Bingo entrants will be listening closely for clues.

So... it should be a really interesting press conference... and sparks might fly.

Revisit this page at 9.30am to watch it live.

Eddie's Bingo for the City game will be up after the presser.

I think it is inevitable that we have to start player trading more regularly at some point, or PSR and SCR will always be a massive stumbling block.

I think Eddie has to start using the academy with what just happened, or what didn't just happen in the transfer window.

We cannot keep running these players into the ground.

I am sure he deemed Lewis Miley not ready when he threw him in, as he had no choice, and look how that turned out.

Sometimes, he just needs to roll the dice.

Think miley got his chance because tonali was out for the year which only left Bruno Joelinton Shaun longstaffe and Joe willock in midfield who apart from Bruno all had injuries and we were in champions league. So Eddie as you say reluctantly put him in the first team. Look at him now sometimes the manager has to just bite the bullet and give these kids a chance to see what we’ve got. No more risky than what Eddie is doing now with 169m worth of players struggling to make an impact when at least 2 of them looked premier league ready

I just watched the True Geordie take on the Livarpool game and I think he's got it right.

Howe seems unable to change from his tried and trusted system.

Is this what happened at Bournemouth where he did a magnificent job for a period of time and then the wheels came off.

If this is the way it's going here and he goes.ThanksEddie fir all you have done.

3 losing trips to Wembley was all I had to remember. You did us proud and won that elusive silverware..That was worth the wait from the Fairs cup win all them years ago.

I am in my 75th year now and 1st went to St James,s as a 8 year old boy…

2024/2025

6th in the league, 41 points, +13 goal difference

2025/2026

11th in the league, 33 points, 0 goal difference

We just haven't replaced the rat's goal threat in the team.
