Will Osula: Can He Make It?

Osula's brilliant winning goal last night was worthy of comparison with those scored by Ronaldo in his hey day. Pace, spellbinding control and a laser like magical finish.

That it came against the team we just love to beat - Manchester United - scored for a ten man Toon in the last minute of normal time, made it Roy of The Rovers stuff in spades.

Our 'Wiki Man' rolls out the stats

Cinematic digital newsroom overlooking St. James' Park, featuring holographic data screens and player statistics by 'The Wiki Man' analyzing Will Osula's performance, Mellow filter, NUFC Blog.

Barry Paul Henry - our very own AI beating Wiki Man - has unearthed the stats below that show there might be a lot more potential to Wor Will than meets the eye.

Take a look at these stats complied by BPH...

Will osula may well have " only " scored his 6th goal in 43 apparences , but he's also only played a total of 973 minutes.

3 PL goals in 391 minutes

3 cup goals in 475 minutes

0 goals in 129 minutes in CL

He gets his share of criticism , and gets questioned on his ability ( i've done it myself ) yet he has 6 goals and 3 asissts in basically 11 games of football when you add the minutes up. He's actually done really well.

It's not his first late substitute goal for 10 man Toon

Will Osula’s 88th-minute equalizer against Liverpool at St. James' Park

That goal may not have been as magical as his goal against Man U but it was still a smart finish just seconds after coming on against Liverpool.

We were down to ten men in that match too and had Liverpool not snatched a last minute winner - Osula's goal would have been almost as dramatic as last nights.

Will Will start against City?

It's a fact that Osula hasn't had many minutes, especially in the starting line up, making it difficult to judge the real potential of a player who is still clearly raw and unpolished.

Five and ten minute cameo's here and there aren't the breeding ground that produces the finished article.

But... Eintracht Frankfurt and Aston Villa saw enough to be interested in signing Osula, so has Eddie Howe missed something they have spotted?

Or, is it simply that big summer signings Woltemade and Wissa have been given the nod ahead of the less experienced and still raw Osula?

It is telling that Eddie sent him on ahead of Wissa last night and if Will's goal was magical, Eddie pulled one right out of the hat with that decision.

So... will Osula be rewarded with a start against Manchester City in the FA Cip?

Was last night's goal just a flash in the pan... or a flash of genius from an emerging talent?

Is he the ST we need to re-energise our season, or even the RW to make a big impact?

What do you think?

And no way should Joelinton be played up front. His strength, as displayed on Wednesday night, was pinning his marker in the middle of the park, turning him and carrying the ball upfield. It’s brave as he risks being dispossessed, but it opens up the pitch, and his powerful running and physicality comes to the fore. That’s the best I’ve seen him play.

Replying to

Joelinton was my man of the match on Wednesday, and when he plays like that in midfield he is unstoppable.

I still think he is the one player we have who is most suited to playing up front though. He has both the pace to run in behind but also the strength to hold the ball up and turn defenders.

As you say he may be too valuable to lose from his midfield role, unless other players return from injury.

Doubt Osula will get goal of the season sadly. One of the dodgy 5 will be awarded it by the corrupt premier league.

I think Osulas goal could be goal of the season. It was a great finish, which matches all the other spectacular strikes that will be up there, but it also had a sweeping move that started just outside our own box. Poetry in motion.

All this ‘big six’ bollix. It is a construct of a certain Daniel Levy who was desperate for Spurs to be included in the same conversation as Manu, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. Back in the 90’s only one team qualified for the European cup, which became 2 , then 4 in the early 2000’s. Spurs we’re never included in those top 4 conversations back then, as they were shite. Remember when we thumped them in the ‘99 cup semi. We were included as we had a number of top 4 finishes, including 2 runner up finishes. Then the Russian bought Chelsea and Dubai bought City. You then had 5 teams with serious wealth and/or a historical legacy but only 4 CL…
