Lewis Hall: Might He Be Next?

Man Utd being interested in Hall and Hall interested in going to Old Trafford is a rumour that started to play out at the end of last season.

Reports that he was unhappy at being switched to right back even if just for one game, not being a guaranteed left back first choice over Dan Burn, and missing out on the WC squad were all sited as being reasons why he would be open to a move.

Eddie Howe has rubbished reports of a fall out with Lewis but I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of the above reasons are playing out in Hall's mind.

Who Howe selects as his first choice left centre back might well influence Hall in deciding whether his immediate future lies with Newcastle.

If it's Dan Burn that almost certainly guarantees Hall the left back spot, but if Eddie goes with Sven Botman then either Hall or Burn has to sit on the bench.

With no CL and Botman now fit after injury, rotation and Burn playing LCB are no longer reasons to leave Hall out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hall has asked, or will be asking, Eddie if he is his first choice LB.

IMO he needs to be told he is.

Dan Burn's days as a CB may not be over, but surely his time as a LB is. The season before last, before Hall emerged, when Dan played at LB, he was relentlessly targeted by the oppo and although rarely skinned it was clear his best position was as a CB.

Lewis Hall will currently be nowhere near a top earner at NUFC and he could easily double his wages with a move.

That's why he deserves to be offered a new contract and a guarantee that he is Eddie's first choice LB.

With the club signing talented young players the last thing we want is to lose one.
