Toon Target Danilo Praised By Brazil Legend Cafu

25 year old midfielder Danilo Santos, who had a spell at Nottingham Forest, scored 10 goals in 24 matches for Brazilian club Botafogo last season and has 2 goals in 8 games for the national side since making his debut earlier this year.

Rumours are the Toon are interested with his fee said to be c£25M.

Cafu on Danilo: A standout player for Brazil

While Danilo was not a starter at the WC he still managed to make four appearances as a sub and Brazil legend Cafu praised the midfielders impact in both defence and attack.

Scoring twice in eight friendlies before the the WC got underway Cafu had this to say "He attacks, he defends with the same strength, he plays, he has a vision for the game"

Praise indeed.

Danilo joined Forest in a c£16M deal in 2023 but left for Botafogo two years later for c£22M.

He is now apparently valued at £25M and is reportedly keen to try his luck again in the PL and with Danilo now a more mature player and a Brazilian international that fee could turn out to be a bargain.

As usual, the rumour comes with all of the usual ifs & buts.

It holds out the prospect of a potential three man Brazilian midfield for the Toon if Damilo were to line up alongside Bruno and Jo,

The lad is a big unit and, as Cafu said, he gets himself about in defence and at the business end of the pitch scoring with his head and both feet.

The fact that he has PL experience means he knows what to expect and if the rumours are true he might be exchanging the black and white shirt of Botafogo for the same kit at Newcastle.

Here is a compilation of Danilo's play and goals last season...

I first saw Kegan play against Newcastle back in ‘74 when he scored 2 goals against my beloved Newcastle United - we lost 3 - 0 I not ashamed to say I was in tears when the full time whistle sounded! But later on he signed for Newcastle and I was “Over the Moon” especially when he scored into the Gallowgate net for Wor Lads. He said later the folk in the Gallowgate had “sucked the ball into the net”. It was the start of a great new adventure for NUFC and their fans. Later he came back as Manager of our team and took them to a cat’s whisker of the EPL title. He was a star …

Just heard the sad news on radio ulster at 5pm on the passing of Keving Keegan.

The lad will be a huge loss first and foremost to his family, but also the whole football world. The lad was not just a truly world class player, but also the best and most exciting manager of our lifetime in my opinion. It really is ironic that we play Liverpool in our first game, Kevin is truly revered by both clubs for what he achieved, it`s as if he planned this parting shot. this undoubtedly will be a very emotional fixture. Rest in Peace King Kevin.
