Newcastle United have reportedly been keeping a close eye on FC Porto, with three players attracting attention ahead of future transfer windows.

According to reports in the Portuguese media, Newcastle scouts attended Porto versus PSV Eindhoven on 20 October with midfielder Victor Froholdt, winger William Gomes and striker Samu Aghehowa among the players linked with the Magpies.

The reports, originating from Portuguese newspaper A Bola and subsequently highlighted by Sport Witness, suggest Newcastle are continuing to monitor potential additions to their squad.

Froholdt, 20, is a particularly interesting name.

The Danish midfielder has attracted attention for his performances in Portugal, and his age makes him a potential long-term investment.

Brazilian winger William Gomes offers a different attacking option, while Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa has also been linked with interest from Premier League clubs.

However, the presence of Newcastle scouts at a match does not necessarily mean all three players are active transfer targets.

Clubs routinely monitor several players during scouting assignments, and there has been no confirmation of formal negotiations or offers involving any of the trio.

With Newcastle looking to strengthen their squad over the coming transfer windows, the reported scouting activity suggests recruitment planning is continuing behind the scenes.

For now, the Porto trio remain names to watch rather than confirmed Newcastle transfer targets.
