NEWSFEED: Newcastle Could Receive £6m if Eddie Howe Takes Manchester United Job
Newcastle United could receive up to £6 million in compensation if Manchester United appoint former Magpies manager Eddie Howe as their next head coach.
According to a report by James Ducker in The Telegraph, Newcastle included contractual protection when Howe left St James' Park in July, potentially entitling the club to a substantial payment if he takes charge of a rival.
Although Howe is currently without a club, his departure from Newcastle does not necessarily mean Manchester United could appoint him without paying compensation.
The 48-year-old still had several years remaining on his Newcastle contract when he stepped down, and the reported agreement could now provide the Magpies with an unexpected financial windfall.
Howe has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Michael Carrick, whose position is under increasing pressure following Manchester United's 3–0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday.
Reports suggest Howe would be prepared to consider an approach from Old Trafford, although Julian Nagelsmann is another prominent candidate.
There is also speculation that Howe would want to reunite with members of his former Newcastle coaching staff, including Jason Tindall.
For Newcastle, the possibility of receiving up to £6 million would be a welcome financial bonus following the manager's departure earlier this year.
However, no appointment has been made, and the compensation figure remains a reported potential payment rather than a confirmed deal.
