A Chance To Make History... Again
The defeat at Sunderland is now history but on Wednesday at SJP we have the chance to make the type of history we want to remember - taking another step to retaining the Carabou Cup. Winning the Carabou Cup and bringing a domestic trophy back to SJP for the first time in 70 years was the dream I had waited 60 odd long years for to become a reality. Since the first time my Dad Bill lifted me over the turnstiles at SJP as a nipper I have been a Toon fanatic, inspired from an ea

Eddie's Bingo v Fulham
NOTE Eddie's Bingo : No comments on this page - Bingo entries only. It was a bad day all round on Sunday... No win at Sunderland and yet again no winners in Eddie's Bingo. With Burn injured there will be at least one forced change in the team to face Fulham in the QF of the Carabou Cup in Wednesday's 8.15pm KO. I would expect some rotation in midfield and on the wings and Eddie might even decide that this is the ideal game and time to rest Woltemade and start Wissa. With anot

It's Time For Harsh Truths
Losing to Sunderland is bad enough at any time; but the manner of this defeat, the insipid performance and lack of pride and fight, made it a bad sad day for Toon fans. What is even worse, and a fact is... were we really surprised? I made the point in my match preview - In truth, no performance or result now surprises us. Right across the club... from management, to the squad and fans, there is now a lack of belief in our ability to produce the consistent performances and re

Derby Atmosphere At Fever Pitch
There are two fevers raging across Tyne and Wear this weekend - Super Flu and Derby Fever as Newcastle take on Sunderland in the league for the first time since 2016, It's a massive match for both teams with huge bragging rights up for grabs - a win for Sunderland would put them 4pts ahead and continue their long unbeaten run against the Mags, whilst a win for the Toon would see us go 2pts above the Mackems. With only one away win this season in the league and leads thrown a

Eddie's Bingo v Sunderland
NOTE Eddie's Bingo : No comments on this page - Bingo entries only. Who will get the nod from Eddie to take on Sunderland in the first league derby since 2016? A win would take us above the preening Mackems and send Toon fans wild. Eddie possibly showed his hand with the side starting against Leverkusen when he was expected to play his strongest available eleven. More of the same against Sunderland? The exception could be Jo who went off injured and who is a doubt for the m

Gordon Nails The Problem
What should have been a great win against Leverkusen was turned into a good, but ultimately disappointing, draw as yet again a late goal was conceded. It's now 9 goals conceded in the last 10 minutes of all competitions. Another galling fact is that we have been in front in all of our last five away games and only won one. This late goal issue is turning into a pandemic more costly than Covid. I know it's ifs and buts - but even if half of those late goals could have been av

Full Strength Team Expected Against Leverkusen Tonight
After making six changes against Burnley Eddie Howe is expected to field his best available eleven against Leverkusen tonight in match 6 of the Champions League. With a full four days before the derby on Sunday Eddie could decide that after resting some of the regular starters he can afford to play his best team in both crucial games. A win tonight would not only guarantee a place in the play off's for the knockout stage but would put us in a great position to qualify automat

Eddie's Presser v Leverkusen
Eddie Howe and Nick Woltemade shared the presser and there were no big surprises and in reality it was a fairly bland 30 minutes - mainly because bland is exactly what the questions were. Eddie wasn't pushed on why we continue to concede late goals, what he thinks is the reason, and what he is doing in training to sort it out and cut it out. He did say that in-game management needs to improve, but why one of the hacks didn't ask how he intends to do that defeats me. I'm not a

Will Eddie Play Woltemade & Wissa?
Eddie will probably ease Wissa back into match fitness with sub appearances during the hectic Xmas schedule - but what are his plans going forward? Does that plan involve both Woltemade and Wissa starting together and, if so, what formation will Eddie play? It's an interesting and exciting question to ask because - if Eddie gets it right - it could transform the way we play and hugely increase our attacking and goal threat. Whilst Big Nick has made a good start to his Toon ca

Eddie's Bingo v Leverkusen
NOTE Eddie's Bingo : No comments on this page - Bingo entries only. After making six changes to the team that faced Burnley Eddie is almost certain to play a full strength or near full strength team against Leverkusen. A win would guarantee us a place in the CL play off's and take the Toon a step nearer a top eight finish and guaranteed qualification. Yet again nobody predicted the starting line up against Burnley - can you second guess Eddie and get a full house in the Bingo

Anthony Elanga Verdict
Anthony Elanga was signed for £55M supposedly as an upgrade on Jacob Murphy - but the jury is still well out among fans on whether that was money well spent. Our first target for that RW position was Bryan Mbuemo and that would definitely have been an upgrade and a nailed on successful acquisition. His form at Man U shows that. Instead it was Elanga who came through the door for a hefty fee that looked steep to many fans even before he had kicked a ball in a black and white s

A Win That Left Me Fuming
A win and three points is always good - but that doesn't mean any deficiencies should be glossed over and ignored. And there were some big downsides to the Burnley win. First the good parts - it's now three wins in our last four undefeated games and ten points out of twelve that has us just three points off 4th place. And, with Sunderland losing, a win in the derby would take us two points above the upstarts down the road. How good would that be. That's a way better position

Newcastle v Burnley
Saturday 7th December, KO 3 pm - Match Preview The Toon come into this game after the frustration and disappointment of the Spurs game when another 2pts were lost to a late equaliser - making it 11pts lost from winning positions already this season. Some of that disappointment is offset by the fact that most fans would have settled for 7pts from an unbeaten run of three games against Man City, Everton and Spurs. It's a must win game as gaps start to open up the league... A

Eddie's Bingo v Burnley
NOTE Eddie's Bingo : No comments on this page - Bingo entries only. After the disappointing draw against Spurs and some below par performances Eddie may make some changes against Burnley. Ransdale and the back four will almost certainly stay as is, but will Eddie give Jo a rest in midfield after previously resting Tonali and Bruno? With only Barnes really hitting his stride this season who will line up alongside Woltemade? An unlikely - but welcome - change might be Wissa sta

It's Happened Again...
After Gordon put us 2-1 up from the penalty spot "It's happened again" was the chant aimed at the Spurs fans from the Gallowgate - only for the 'It's happened again' moniker to be yet another late goal conceded by the Toon. That brings the total number of points already lost from winning positions this season to an alarming 11 - not far off a point a game. Eddie Howe after the match said "It's a strange one". Not to Newcastle fans it isn't. I bet I wasn't alone last night wh

Top 4 & Mackem Assault Starts Tonight Against Spurs at SJP
Bothe teams go into this game equal on 18pts - just 6pts behind 4th place - but the mood in the two camps definitely isn't equal. The Toon have hit their stride in the last two games beating Man City, thumping Everton and smashing in six goals with only one conceded. Spurs, and their increasingly under pressure new manager Thomas Frank, are on an awful run with only one win in their last six matches - four in the Prem - and have conceded a staggering 12 goals in their last 4

Eddie's Spurs Presser: Wissa & Other Injury Updates
Yoane Wissa played in an 11v11 training ground match with a young group of players over the weekend and Eddie Howe plans another run out game for him this week. This is what Eddie had to say on Wissa's progress and return date... “I've given so many different dates, I've got no idea. There's been no change, he's working back, he's doing well, everything's positive, but he will be back involved when we think he's able to contribute to the group, and has a minimal chance of re-

Eddie's Bingo v Spurs
NOTE Eddie's Bingo : No comments on this page - Bingo entries only. There were no winners for the Everton game so the table stays as is below. Eddie is on a roll with nobody second guessing his starting 11 for weeks. It's another difficult Bingo guessing game for Tuesday night's 8.15pm KO against Spurs. Does Eddie start the same Everton 11 or does he bring back a rested Tonali which seems to be the most likely change? Or, with only two full days rest between games does Eddie

Everton 1 Newcastle United 4
7 Months of Away Misery Ends - Thanks to Thiaw, Woltemade... and Pickford This was another City like barnstorming and rampant performance that finally got the away day monkey off Eddie and the Toon's back. Two wins on the trot has taken us up to 11th and with three home games out of the next four - and the away game at Sunderland - we can now dare to look on the bright side of life. Repeat these last two performances and there is no reason why we can't win our next four games

Everton v Newcastle United: Judgement Day 2
Everton and Newcastle meet today at 5.30pm in a Premier League clash that is Judgement Day 2 for the Toon. Judgement Day 1 was passed v Man City. Everton are riding a bit of a wave under Moyes with a confidence boosting 10 man victory at Man U meaning a win would put them in the top10. With only one defeat in six home games this season, and only five goals conceded, it's a tough place to go and get our first away win in months. I called the match against Man City Judgement Da
