Poor in the Prem, Good in the Cups. Why?
In my opinion it's quite simple... In both the EPL Cup and CL almost without exception teams are going for a win - not to avoid defeat. With no replays in EPL Cup, and drawn games going straight to penalties, there is no real incentive for a team to sit back, flood the defence and hope to avoid a defeat - as often happens in the Prem and especially when the underdogs play a top team. In the CL, lose the first game, as we did and you are straight on the back foot for qualifyi

Out Played, Out Fought, Out Gunned
Simply not good enough, that would actually be all I need to say in this post. A West Ham team who were expected to capitulate if we got an early goal - which we did inside of five minutes - was turned into a well deserved 3-1 win for the home side. How did that happen? Because quite simply we were out played, out fought and eventually out gunned by a determined and very well organised West Ham side who had the the outstanding player on the pitch - Lucas Paqueta. If West Ham

7 Away Games Without A Win
Newcastle United take on West Ham at The London Stadium at 2pm today having failed to win in their last seven Premier League away matches and failing to score in four of those games. The Toon have drawn four and lost three of the those games, a run that stretches back to the 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa on 19 April. Since his appointment on 27th September, after the sacking of Graham Potter, new West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has yet to win with only 1pt to his name s

Wissa: What's Wrong?
Yoane Wissa was signed from Brentford for £55M on deadline day after a protracted transfer saga that echoed the situation with Alexander Isak's move to Liverpool. Wissa was expected to be the starting ST while our record £69M ST Nick Woltemade eased his way into Eddie's tactics and the pace and physicality of the Premier League. That plan didn't last long. Yoane suffered a knee injury on international duty that was later confirmed as a PCL - a posterior cruciate ligament in

West Ham: No Excuses
Calling games a 'must win' is bit of a cliche as we want the Toon to win every game. So I'm calling the match at West Ham a 'no excuses' game because there is no way that we shouldn't come away with three points - whatever team Eddie Howe puts out. Previous reasons/excuses for an iffy start to the season have included injuries to Wissa , last minute goals conceded, Woltemade not starting until the Wolves game, players fatigued by international duty, and penalty decisions

Two Steps from Wembley
My usual fiver on the score paid dividends last night as my 2-0 bet came up trumps. My other prediction, or rather rotation advice to Eddie Howe , went down the pan and was ignored as eight changes were made from the side that beat Fulham. Did those changes make much difference to the performance? No, a Spurs team unbeaten in five away games were dispatched and dumped out of the EFL Cup with aplomb with goals from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade making it a largely unchall

It's a Must Win Game Against Spurs Tonight
That emotional day at Wembley when we finally lifted a domestic trophy after 70 years of failure will live long in the hearts of Toon fans . For many fans, me included, it ended decades of supporting Newcastle United when our hopes and dreams had been buried, often in early cup exits, at times even beaten by non-league teams like Bedford and Hereford. Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all beat us in FA & League Cup finals, we were always the bridesma

Squad Rotation: The Pros & Cons
The fixture list at this time of the season is relentless. Next up it's Newcastle v Spurs in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night. Premier League , Champions League and defending our Carabou Cup win means Eddie Howe will once again face the rotation question. As the fixtures pile up, one truth remains: You can’t compete and perform well without depth, but you can’t win games without the right team chemistry. Howe’s challenge is to find that perfect middle ground. Consistent over

Sandro Tonali, a Gem of a Player
Whilst, rightly, Bruno Guimaraes got the plaudits and headlines for his late winning goal against Fulham, Sando Tonali yet again had a big impact in his time on the pitch. Coming on a s a sub when the Lads had done everything after Fulham equalised but put the ball in the net, there were some tired legs on the pitch after the heroics against Benfica in midweek. Young Lewis Miley has great quality but he isn't the type of all action swashbuckling player that Tonali is. Brin

Whippet Osula Helps Bruno Clinch 3pts in a Hard Fought Game
It was late, it was dramatic, and it was pure St James’ Park . On a chilly Saturday afternoon, Newcastle United dug deep to claim a 2–1 win over Fulham , thanks to a 90th-minute strike from Bruno Guimarães after Will Osula made a dramatic sub appearance. 'Whippet' Osula's fleet footed run to the edge of the box and parried shot was calmly fired in by Bruno to send the SJP crowd into a frenzy. A desperately needed win that looked to have floundered on near misses and posts h

Woltemade: Wissa Injury a Blessing in Disguise
Nick Woltemade arrived at Newcastle United in August 2025 from VfB Stuttgart in what became a club-record £69M signing. It followed the failure of the club to sign other striker targets; Liam Delap. Jao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. Whoever arrived, the pressure to replace the departing Isak and get anywhere near his influence and goal tally would be immense. The Toon weren't a one man team, but Isak was the type of player who could pull a goal out of nothing. D

WATCH LIVE: Eddie's Press Conference at 9.30am
The Magpies head into Saturday on the back of a morale-boosting 3–0 win over Benfica in midweek — a performance full of energy, pressing, and clinical finishing. It was exactly what the team needed after a mixed run of league results, and it’s given the Toon Army plenty to cheer about heading into this one. The team, the tempo, and the confidence all looked back to their best, and fans will be hoping that momentum carries into the Premier League . against Fulham tomorrow.

HIGHLIGHTS: Benfica Blitzed by Brilliant Toon
Dinah Washington sang 'What A Difference A Day Makes'... The Toon Army should be singing what a difference four days makes after blitzing Benfica with a brilliant all round team performance that had everything the Brighton performance lacked. Roared on by a another full throttle SJP crowd the Lads were on it from the start, tearing into Benfica with pace, high tempo, attacking intent, and slick passing that constantly threatened the Benfica defence. We could have been two up

Mourinho Before the Benfica Game on NUFC, Eddie Howe & Toon Fans
If you haven't seen Jose Mourinho's press conference it's definitely worth a look. We all know his total respect and love for Sir Bobby Robson from his time as SBR's trusted assistant, but in his press conference yesterday Jose also expressed his admiration for what Eddie Howe has achieved and his affection for the club and fans. For all his good words, and the respect he'll get from us fans, we still want to inflict a third CL defeat on his Benfica team in tonight's match at
